We finally have fish in the pond! Up until now its only inhabitants have been a frog and some tadpoles. It took longer and involved more expense than I planned on but on Saturday 2 fancy goldfish and 12 "feeder" goldfish found a new home in our pond. We ended up having to buy a UV clarifier and a second pump but the fish seem to be happy. We weren't able to find any affordable koi on Saturday but we'll keep looking.

Functioning Pond
We have a functioning pond! Unfortunately we had to buy a new pump and filter but now the "falls" are falling, the plants are are all placed, and it's ready for fish. Do we play it safe and buy feeder fish or do we splurge and buy a few koi?

More Pond Pictures and Sarah's First Communion
This past weekend we continued work on our pond renovation. Friday afternoon I bought a 64 lb flat rock for the waterfall. Yep, you heard right - bought! All those years that I spent removing rock from our property in PA and now I'm buying them. Go figure! Sunday was spent building and shoring up the upper section of the pond for the waterfall. I also got all the water plants back in the pond.

Saturday was Sarah's First Communion. It was a very nice and memorable occasion.

Pond Remodel
We have had a pond in the backyard for several years but it has not been a real successful project. We used a pre-formed pond kit but we couldn't put it into the ground very far because of buried water and electric lines. The pond would get too hot in the summer and the algae became a big problem. We also had a lot of problems with leaking. So this spring Bob decided to redo the pond using sand to form the shape and a liner to hold in the water. Last Sunday we drained the old pond and removed the plastic shape. We used sand (which we have plenty of) to form the basic shape and installed the liner in the bottom section. We are still working on the waterfall part. Apparently I never took any pictures of the original pond so I couldn't include any "before" pictures in the slide show.

Slideshow and Picassa Web Album Link
Thanks to Mindi for helping add the picture slide show to the blog. If you just click on a picture the picture will enlarge. We also figured out how to add a direct link to our Picasa Web Albums so that you can view other pictures. The link is on the left - "Our Picture Gallery". We're slowly getting the hang of Blogger!
The weather was nasty today - rainy, windy, and rather cool. The kind of day that makes you want to curl up on the couch with a good book. It should be nicer tomorrow.

Happy Easter!
It has been a beautiful Easter Sunday. The weather was perfect, sunny and not too hot. The Swain family all got together for dinner and as usual there was way too much food. Check out the slide show below.
It's back to work tomorrow after a week of Spring Break. I spent as much time as possible working in the yard and I got a lot accomplished but there is still much more to do. Hopefully the weather will continue to be nice.
